Transfer switch compatibility with SBV

Instead of waiting for my ZenY cable, I decided to test the 240v/6-20 outlet to my Reliance R310A manual transfer switch. I don't think the SBV4600's neutral is bonded to ground or the chassis, so this pairing should work?

Well I tried turning on 1 simple 120V circuit and nothing happened, no power draw at all from the SBV. I made sure AC output was on. I tried 3 smaller circuits on the transfer switch with no success.

Has anyone gotten their SBV to work with a transfer switch? Reliance tech support said this should work unless the SBV or generator is GFCI protected. One caveat, I also tried to use my EV (120v/1800 watts)to power the transfer switch and that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

At least the EU model has floating L and N and doesn't care if either of them is externally shorted to PE, AS LONG AS IT IS NOT CONNECTED FOR AC CHARGING. Otherwise the SBV may connect its input and output L and N but only if power is present, so you won't notice it when testing. I don't know why your setup doesn't work, I'd need more information about how that transfer switch works. The SBV can be considered a floating AC source.

I don't have the SBV connected to the grid. I used a 3 light tester plug and it showed 2 amber lights, doesn't that mean that it's neutral ground ? Sorry my electrical knowledge is super subpar.

as long as you treat the output as an offgrid and no common lines to sbv input, you should be fine. so loads should be either grid or sbv and transfer switch should switch both live and neutral. i will have grid to sbv and same grid to transfer switch 1st input. the sbv output to transfer switch 2nd input. loads will be on the transfer switch output. no common wires between any input and output.

Thanks Red, yes I am treating it as an off-grid device, only hooked up to the transfer switch which powers 120v circuits. I need to buy an 5-15 to L14-30 adapter to test the 120v outlets with my transfer switch. I don't even know if that will work, but it defeats the purpose of I can't use the combined power of the TT30 and ZenY cable combo.

This what Zendure support emailed me, "Regarding the switch, if you plug the switch separately into the 6-20P port, it won't work. There are 2 live wires there, no neutral wire, so it can't be switched. But if you plug in a 240V load, it's fine.". Did they misunderstand my question? All I want to know is if my transfer switch can work with the SBV once I get my ZenY cable and use the combined output of the TT30 outlets. Bluetti and Exoflow work fine with transfer switches that have both 120v and 240v circuits. My transfer switch is 240v capable, but I only use them in an all 120v circuit configuration. Man this is so confusing, I might end up returning both units which is the last thing I want to do after waiting so long. Hope you guys are having better luck.

my guess is that the sbv is 240v but i do not think it is split phase 240v so you have neutral and live 240v not live-live 240v split phase. so you may need to wire the 240v sinilar to 120v and use dedicated transfer switches for this. not a spcific us combo 240/120 transfer switch. as usual please consult a local specialist if you are not sure.

with the zenY cable you get 240 split phase and that should work as long as you do not have comon wites between sbv input and sbv
