SBV is permanently charging and discharging the battery

Hi all,

my SBV is set up to charge the battery to 80% by AC power. And I have always running some devices at the AC output. So the SBV is running in UPS mode and it should passthrough the AC power from grid.

But I see now that the SBV is permanently charging and discharging the battery. Is this a normal behavior? When there's a passthrough of AC power it shouldn't permanently charging and discharging the battery, right? Or is this because of an unstable AC power voltage in the AC input side and the SBV delivers always a stable AC power voltage on the AC output side? So the battery is charging and discharging at the same time?

Then it's no problem for the battery lifetime when I will change the power input to DC only so that the battery is charging and discharging at the same time? Until now I thought that it isn't good for the battery when it's charging and discharging at the same time for a long while.

I charged the SBV now to 100% and it shows the same behavior of permanently charging and discharging the battery.

This is probably how they get the 0ms switching time they claim. I do see that if I am charging the battery at 1000 watts and I turn on my TV it show 1200 watts going into the SBV so it seems to pass some power thru

I am also curious to learn more about pass through, both AC and DC. When solar panels are connected, does DC power pass through? Or does it also charge/discharge the battery?

The pass through works only with AC input. The DC Input hast always to be converted to AC by the SBV. So the battery is always charging and discharging at the same time.

I emailed Zendure Tech support on this. There rashly is not a"pass through" standby mode. When the system is has the AC on, there is always inverter "leaching" . Although in ups, oms switching, the unit will have less draw, your unit will cycle. What i do now is use the system to draw energy during peak power times until the home panel is released. I am also waiting for the solar panel arrival. From what I understand, the HP will have switching involved and allow the units to be in a true STBY mode. Still working through everything on my end, but my peak power time, 3pm -7pm is now 400w/hr and I'm not living like a cave man for 4 hours. At more than double the rate during this time, i cannot wait fur the home panel to run selected circuits and have even less usage.

I also see this constant cycling between standby and charging. Happens almost every couple of seconds. This should get fixed…..

I also asked the support. The SBV components are always powered by the battery. And this is why the SBV is always charging and discharging the battery.

I am also having the same problem. Solar panels connected to the DC input, load connected to the AC Output. 1600w coming in, 70w goong out. When battery is full input drops to zero for a minute - discharging, then input goes back up again for a minute until full. Can‘t imagine that being so great for the battery and I would love to see that fixed.

With the newest firmware it's a bit better. There are more breaks between the charging phases.
