Look for my posting here titled something like "the last update fried my SBV's AC unit". Mine was replaced, too. But the new one has the very same issue: When connected to AC input, but set to not to charge, it emits smoke. I managed to pull the plug before the replacement got fried, too. Hopefully, this hasn't damaged it too much. However, I found out what the issue is: I have protected my the grid built by the SBV by grounding one of the two wires and putting in a RCCB switch. Apparently, though, the SBV's inverter gets fried when one of its output wires comes back via the PE wire, while it is set to not to charge. I have explained this to the support, explained that I suppose there will be more customers doing this, and asked for their engineers' opinion on this. Then my support ticket was closed. 🙁
